The old gorilla of the Beijing Zoo was built in 1974 with an area of only 700 square meters. In 1987, a new gorilla hall was built. The museum covers an area of 8,000 square meters: construction area of 1430 square meters, outdoor sports area of 3600 square meters. Construction area than the old museum increased by nearly 2 times.
